On September 25, 2023, Arqum was in Taicang to present the results of the "Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection Network in the Taicang High-Tech Zone," which has been running since 2021. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the project, in collaboration with the ten companies participating in the network, successfully identified and implemented a significant number of measures. These measures have the potential to save 25.000 MWh of energy and 38.000 tons of CO2 annually . This would correspond to a 12,3% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, significantly exceeding the 5% emissions reduction target set at the outset of the energy efficiency network.
The political framework for the "Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection Network in the Taicang High-Tech Zone" is the energy partnership between Germany and China. Arqum assumed the roles of energy consultant and network moderator within the network, visiting all participating companies on-site, conducting energy audits, preparing greenhouse gas (GHG) balances, and organizing and moderating network meetings.
The closing conference provided a platform for representatives of the Chinese and German governments, industry, local industrial parks and companies to learn about and discuss the energy efficiency network as an instrument for energy saving, emission reduction and green development of industrial parks.
Following the closing event, the “2023 Jiangsu-Germany Economic and Trade Cooperation and Exchange Conference” took place, hosted by the Jiangsu Provincial Ministry of Commerce. At this expert panel, Philipp Poferl, Head of International at Arqum, presented the results of the Taicang pilot project and, in particular, offered insights into the future challenges facing companies with global supply chains.
Due to the very positive results of the Taicang pilot project and the strong interest in further sustainability topics, we are now exploring ways to adapt and scale the project approach for other regions. We look forward to continued collaboration!
