The sustainability management system We Impact is now available on the market.

We Impact: Holistic sustainability management with a system

We Impact is an integrated sustainability management system developed by KATE e. V. in cooperation with Arqum. It supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in particular in integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects into their business processes. Among the first users of We Impact are HiPP, Salus, and Dienste für Menschen.

We Impact is based on the legal foundations of the European environmental management system EMAS and takes into account legal frameworks such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG). It also allows for the implementation of the requirements of the Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for SMEs (VSME). We Impact is structured in stages, offering a low-threshold entry point (Level 1) for beginners as well as the more demanding Level 2.

How is quality ensured?

A core element of We Impact is the seal, awarded by independent, accredited auditors. It confirms compliance with defined requirements and strengthens transparency and external credibility. The system also provides for continuous improvement, enabling organizations to regularly assess their progress and identify the next areas to address.

Who ensures the professional quality of We Impact?

An independent strategy advisory board oversees the further development of We Impact. Experts from science, business, and environmental management contribute their assessments. This ensures that the system remains technically sound and aligned with current developments.

Who is We Impact suitable for?

Thanks to the two-stage approach, the system can be used flexibly:

  • Level 1 provides beginners with low-threshold access to basic sustainability elements and ESG processes.
  • Level 2 allows organizations to deepen their approach and strategically embed ESG topics.
  • Organizations with existing systems (e.g. EMAS or ISO 14001) can specifically add social and governance aspects.
  • Organisations with (indirect) reporting obligations receive support in the structured implementation of European standards.
  • Advisory institutions – such as industry networks, chambers of commerce and industry or sustainability consultants – can draw on practical tools to effectively support organizations.

What are the practical advantages?

We Impact supports organizations in systematically developing their sustainability performance, clarifying internal responsibilities, and confidently addressing regulatory requirements. At the same time, the system sets new standards for transparent and impact-oriented sustainability management and comprehensible sustainability reporting in accordance with European guidelines. This creates greater clarity and credibility with customers, authorities, and other partners – in a long-term, transparent, and reliable manner.
