The ÖKOPROFIT® cooperation project: Combine environmental protection with profit
The ÖKOPROFIT® (Ecological Project for Integrated Environmental Technology) cooperation project originated in Graz and connects cities and districts with locally based companies to address ecological issues. The goal is environmental protection with profit: improving operational environmental protection through ecologically sound measures while simultaneously reducing costs.
ÖKOPROFIT® is a recognized preliminary stage to EMAS
ÖKOPROFIT® has been officially recognized by the EU as a precursor to EMAS. This confirms to ÖKOPROFIT®-certified companies that many steps towards establishing an environmental management system according to EMAS have already been completed. These include, for example, the commitment of top management, a large part of the environmental audit, the definition of an environmental policy, and the development of a sound organizational structure.
The annex to COMMISSION IMPLEMENTING DECISION (EU) 2023/1533 compares the building blocks of ÖKOPROFIT® with the EMAS requirements. This table provides a quick overview of which requirements of the EMAS Regulation are already covered by an ÖKOPROFIT® certification.

This is how ÖKOPROFIT® works
The participating companies will receive support from us in three ways:
In joint workshops , participating companies exchange experiences and work on the concrete implementation of improvement measures (e.g., waste management, resource conservation, energy saving ). All companies benefit from shared knowledge and mutual learning. Through individual and tailored environmental consulting at the participants' sites, practical measures are developed and implemented on-site. Participants are regularly provided with up-to-date environmental protection materials containing all important and relevant information.
We are currently supporting ÖKOPROFIT ® projects in Munich, Hanover, Esslingen, Mainz, the city of Augsburg, the Augsburg economic region, the Bavarian Lower Main region, the Starnberg/Tölz/Wolfratshausen region, the South Hesse region, the Hochtaunus region, the Koblenz/Mayen-Koblenz/Mainz-Bingen/Bad Kreuznach region, as well as in Mühldorf, Straubing and Wiesbaden.

The ECOfit funding program
ECOfit and Sustainable Management are based on a funding guideline for operational environmental protection that was valid until 2021 and were an offer from the Ministry for the Environment, Climate and Energy of Baden-Württemberg.
The ECOfit funding program was supported by the Ministry for the Environment, Climate and Energy of Baden-Württemberg from 2005 to 2021. Now, a new funding program called KLIMAfit has been launched, with Arqum supporting the pilot projects.
