Carbon footprint assessments for companies: We create your CCF and PCF

In the context of increasing political demands and rising expectations from market players regarding climate transparency , companies and organizations are facing ever greater requirements for calculating and reducing greenhouse gas emissions . To meet this challenge, we support you in creating a carbon footprint for your company ( Corporate Carbon Footprint, CCF ) or for one of your products or services ( Product Carbon Footprint, PCF ).

NEW: Arqum Climate Convoy - Networking to achieve your own climate footprint

If there is sufficient interest, we offer a network to support the creation of an initial corporate carbon footprint (CCF) according to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol guidelines – including group workshops and individual consultations. Participate and benefit from exchanging ideas with other organizations and our expertise.

We advise you on climate accounting: Corporate Carbon Footprint

We can calculate your corporate carbon footprint based on the requirements of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol , taking into account Scope 1, Scope 2, and, if desired, Scope 3 emissions. We recommend including Scope 3 emissions to ensure the most meaningful carbon footprint analysis. Alternatively, we also offer carbon footprint analyses in accordance with ISO 14064. If you only need to define the organizational and operational boundaries beforehand, we offer a half-day introductory module on carbon footprint analysis, including a Scope 3 materiality analysis.

Let us help you determine your Product Carbon Footprint

The Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) is calculated similarly to the Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF), but focuses on a single product or service. This allows for a more detailed identification of associated greenhouse gas emissions, enabling more targeted implementation of improvement measures. We would be happy to assist you in calculating your PCF. In doing so, we base our work on either the guidelines of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol or ISO 14067.

Our services

Support in collecting the necessary data for calculating a carbon footprint
Support in creating a carbon footprint for your company (CCF) or one of your products (PCF) according to internationally recognized standards (e.g. Greenhouse Gas Protocol, ISO 14064, ISO 14067)
Research and selection of suitable emission factors for conversion into CO2 equivalents
Calculation and evaluation of the climate balance
Preparation of a report with a transparent explanation of the methodology, results and data sources used (e.g. according to ISO 14064-1 or ISO 14067)
Preparation and support of external verification (e.g. according to ISO 14064)

Your benefits

Transparent and valid carbon footprint of your company or product along the entire value chain
Identification of potentials for reducing greenhouse gas emissions
Development of concrete and tailored measures and targets for reducing CO2 emissions
Creating a basis for decision-making regarding sustainable, economically effective climate protection

This is how we create a carbon footprint for your company

A carbon footprint assessment is based on a clear objective and defined system boundaries. Using a gap analysis, we collect and review your company's existing data, such as that gathered through EMAS or energy management . We then collect all other necessary data. We provide you with suitable data collection tools and support you in their use.

After determining all relevant activity data of your company, this data is clearly presented in a climate balance sheet as CO2 equivalents using appropriate conversion factors.

The results of the carbon footprint analysis are then evaluated to clearly define the various emission sources. Based on these results, we can develop targeted mitigation strategies, up to and including a comprehensive climate management system for your company or organization.

Climate protection in companies is being promoted: As part of the "Federal Funding for Energy and Resource Efficiency in Business," the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA) supports the development of a transformation plan, the creation and certification of carbon footprints, and provides consulting services for developing a transformation concept or climate protection management system. Companies based in Baden-Württemberg also receive financial support for consulting and the implementation of carbon footprinting and climate protection measures through the "Companies Taking Climate Action " funding program.

Frequently asked questions about consulting on carbon footprints

What is a carbon footprint?

A carbon footprint (also known as a greenhouse gas footprint, corporate carbon footprint, or CO2 balance) indicates the amount of greenhouse gas emissions caused by the direct and indirect activities of a person or company. It serves as a starting point for defining climate targets and mitigation measures. A carbon footprint can also be prepared for a product or service (product carbon footprint) or a territorial area, such as a municipality.

What is a CCF?

The Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) is the total amount of greenhouse gas emissions that a company causes directly or indirectly. It includes emissions from the company's operational activities, such as energy consumption, production, and transportation. Calculating this footprint is an important step for companies to measure and reduce their environmental impact.

What is a PCF?

A Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) is the total amount of greenhouse gas emissions generated throughout a product's entire life cycle, from manufacturing and use to disposal. This metric indicates a product's environmental impact and is used to support environmentally conscious purchasing decisions and reduce emissions associated with a product. Therefore, the PCF also plays a crucial role in the context of a supply chain.

What do the scopes mean?

The scopes are categories for recording greenhouse gas emissions in companies according to the so-called "Greenhouse Gas Protocol". Scope 1 covers direct emissions from company-owned sources; Scope 2 refers to emissions associated with piped energy, such as electricity or district heating. Scope 3 considers other, indirect emissions, such as those generated by supply chains and business travel.
