ISO 50005 simplifies energy management
ISO 50005 is a guideline that systematically and gradually introduces organizations to the development of an energy management system. The low-threshold approach of ISO 50005 is particularly suitable for organizations seeking an entry point into a more detailed examination of energy issues and for whom the implementation and certification of a full energy management system according to ISO 50001 initially appears too complex and costly.
This practice-oriented standard helps organizations stabilize their energy management at a reliable minimum level and prepare flexibly for future requirements. It enables them to achieve overarching goals – such as improving energy efficiency and the associated cost savings – while still using appropriate resources.
Our consulting services: We support companies and public authorities in implementing energy management principles.
Do you want to delve deeper into the topic of "energy"—for example, to comply with legal requirements or within the framework of EMAS or ISO 14001? We support you in implementing the various levels (1 to 4) of ISO 50005. Together with you, we will determine which level is suitable for your company and what needs to be done to achieve it.

Step-by-step implementation of energy management principles: The structure of ISO 50005
The standard offers with itsn four steps and the Construction kitprinciple credentials for Possibility, a perfectly fitting system to introduce. Therewith You can Your System step by step build up and further develop, at your own pace higher levelreach and to the introduction of an energy management system according to ISO 50001 with certification to prepare.
Reaching Level 2 already lays a solid foundation for improving energy efficiency – particularly through robust energy monitoring and the planning and implementation of measures. At the same time, you already meet certain legal requirements. Compared to a comprehensive energy management system according to ISO 50001, both the costs and the implementation effort are significantly lower.
Since ISO 50005 is structured similarly to ISO 50001, it provides an ideal basis for subsequent certification. The standard includes, among other things, the following elements:
- Maturity model for the gradual introduction of an energy management system (EnMS)
- Energy policy and leadership responsibility
- Analysis and evaluation of energy use
- Establishment of energy performance indicators (EnPIs) and energy reference bases
- Goals, action plans and measures to improve energy-related performance
- Competence, communication and documentation
- Monitoring, measurement, internal evaluation and continuous improvement
Leveraging synergies: Energy audit or EcoProfit as a basis for ISO 50005
An energy audit according to DIN EN 16247 is more than just a legal obligation – it's the ideal starting point for structured energy management. The insights gained from the energy audit, which provide a reliable data foundation, significantly reduce the effort and costs associated with implementing ISO 50005: energy consumption, relevant energy consumers, key performance indicators, potential savings, and initial measures are already identified. Within the framework of ISO 50005, these are further developed in a structured manner, responsibilities are clarified, and measures are prioritized.
Ecoprofit companies also benefit from synergies: With the help of ISO 50005, they can systematically develop their commitment in the energy sector and seamlessly build on existing measures.
Together towards ISO 50005: Take advantage of our cost-effective convoy process.
The implementation of ISO 50005 can be carried out in both individual and group projects (convoy approach). Group formats have the advantage of providing space for the exchange of experience, mutual inspiration, and collaborative learning.
We currently offer a convoy for companies and public institutions . Benefit from joint group workshops, the exchange of experiences with other organizations, and our individual consultation appointments.
