The Kalle Group , a manufacturing company with approximately 1.500 employees and locations worldwide, is facing the challenge of producing its first CSRD-compliant, non-financial sustainability report. Arqum is supporting this demanding process as an external consultant, from the initial steps to the final report.
To offer a structured approach, Arqum relies on a proven, five-step consulting approach for the successful implementation of CSRD reporting requirements:
Our five modules for successful CSRD reporting
- Kick-off & ContextWe begin by working with the client to gain an overview of the CSRD requirements and analyze the company's ESG context. This includes, among other things, identifying the most important sustainability issues.
- Materiality analysisIn workshops, we identify the key ESG issues, risks, and opportunities for the company. Crucially, this involves the principle of dual materiality, which considers both the impact of business activities on the environment and society, as well as the financial risks and opportunities for the reporting company.
- Introduction to data collection: Together we will review what data is already available and plan the collection of the missing information.
- Data collection: In cooperation with the relevant departments and management levels of the company, we support our clients in collecting the necessary data and creating the required documents.
- ReportingFinally, we provide support in compiling and finalizing the CSRD report.
Practical example: KALLE Group
At the KALLE Group, we also use our five-step approach. The process began with a kick-off meeting where the company context was defined with all project stakeholders. In addition, relevant ESG topics that were already known were identified, and an analysis of the value chain was conducted. Based on this, we created longlists of sustainability aspects (environmental, social, and governance).
From data collection to the finished CSRD report
As part of the materiality analysis (workshops), we identified the sustainability topics relevant to KALLE and then proceeded to determine which data required for the CSRD report were fully available. In workshops with the responsible departments, potential data gaps were identified and the available information was compared with the CSRD requirements.
For our collaborations with clients like the KALLE Group, workshops are a proven format that allows us to develop solutions together with the participants, which are then directly incorporated into the report. This is how we at Arqum ensure that the sustainability report not only complies with the CSRD standard, but also forms a sound basis for the company's future sustainability strategy.
To optimize the process, we have introduced a regular series of meetings to promptly clarify open questions and challenges that arise during data collection and reporting.
Outlook: Greenhouse gas balance and regular meeting series
In addition to the actual CSRD reporting, we are also working with KALLE on a greenhouse gas inventory according to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. This inventory – covering Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions – is essential for climate reporting.
