Deutsche Bahn and the train drivers' union GDL are currently at odds once again – a quick resolution to the differences is unfortunately not in sight. Therefore, further strikes are likely in the near future. The consequence: trains are cancelled, and for many commuters, the daily commute becomes an ordeal.
The obvious solution: switch to your own car. The problem: bad for the environment and even more traffic. Therefore, it makes sense to consider alternative, environmentally friendly modes of transportation. Unfortunately, for many commuters, the barrier to using alternative means of transport is high – especially when it has to be done overnight.
Sustainable mobility – motivate your employees!
Therefore, encourage your employees to research in advance of the next strike, to explore available options, to register for service offers, and to download apps.
These alternative options for more sustainable mobility are available.
Especially in urban areas, but also in rural areas, there are often more options than you might think. How about, for example:
- carpooling platform (e.g. Twogo, fahrgemeinschaft.de, betterride.de, BlaBlaCar) – Commuters can offer a ride or ride along themselves.
- Carpooling with colleagues – carpooling is often a good option for getting to work. Connect your employees!
- Promoting the use of e-bikes, for example through company bike schemes – the barrier to getting on a bike is significantly lower with an e-bike, and longer (and hillier) distances can be covered with less effort. A real advantage, especially in rural areas!
- Rent a car from a car-sharing provider (e.g. Miles, ShareNow, stadtmobil, cultural, or Sixt share) – the carsharing market is booming, the supply is constantly growing!
- Test private rail services, which may not be affected by the strike, as an alternative to Deutsche Bahn.
- the combination of several modes of transport (e.g. Park & Ride, train & car sharing, bike & ride)
- Long-distance bus – often a cost-effective alternative!
Those who have experienced and learned about alternatives to owning a car and how they work find it easier to give up their own vehicle. This makes sustainable, future-proof mobility the norm – even when the trains are on strike!
