With the completion of the three-year research project, the digital EMAS platform is now officially and still free of charge going into regular operation – making it easier, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises, to get started with corporate environmental protection.
It was commissioned by the Federal Environment Agency and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, accompanied by the Environmental Expert Committee and launched by Arqum together with KATE eV and regisafe GmbH.
What are the advantages of the EMAS platform?
The EMAS platform guides users through the entire EMAS process, from the initial environmental assessment and external audit to registration, supporting them with key administrative and content-related functions. It provides users with detailed checklists, task descriptions, Word and Excel templates, completed examples (for industry, administration, and trade), and digital tools free of charge. However, the EMAS Regulation does not mandate the use of the platform; it is a voluntary service designed to facilitate the EMAS process for businesses.
A look back: The highlights of the closing event
The one-year open pilot phase of the EMAS platform officially concluded with a digital closing event on April 7, 2025. The online event provided over 200 participants with a comprehensive overview of the project's results.
The focus was on the final features of the EMAS platform, which were presented in full for the first time at the event. The program was complemented by practical reports from pilot companies and presentations from experts on digital transformation in environmental management.
Conclusion of the open pilot phase
With the closing event in April 2025, the open pilot phase officially comes to an end. This phase served to allow the public to extensively test the platform and provide the project team with suggestions for improvement, which could then be implemented within the scope of the research project. The feedback was crucial in further developing the platform, making technical optimizations, and improving its user-friendliness.
