Switch gears: From car driver to e-biker

Switch gears: Why you should switch from car driver to e-biker

E-bikes make it possible. Commuters can cover longer distances, even steeper inclines, effortlessly compared to a regular bicycle. This makes e-bikes a genuine alternative to motorized private transport and offers great potential for reducing the environmental impact of daily commuting. Compared to cars, there are also many other advantages. Here are seven reasons why you should commute to the office by e-bike:

  1. They make an important contribution to sustainable, future-proof mobility.

According to the German Federal Environment Agency, a typical pedelec produces 15 g and a car 194 g of CO₂ equivalents per passenger kilometer – including the provision of the vehicle, its use, and the infrastructure. Additionally, other harmful emissions such as particulate matter are avoided. Put simply, an e-bike is therefore almost 13 times more climate-friendly than a car.

Further environmental advantages of cycling include lower space and land consumption as well as reduced noise pollution.

  1. They promote your health

Cycling on an e-bike gets you much more exercise than sitting in a car or on the train. Just 30 minutes of cycling a day promotes health and increases fitness: The exercise reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease by up to 50 percent. Cycling also strengthens lung function, trains muscles throughout the body, lowers cholesterol levels, and prevents back and joint pain.

  1. They avoid stressors

Traffic jams, chaos, train strikes, delays, the search for parking, and the like can really raise your stress levels. How about hopping on an e-bike instead and enjoying a leisurely ride along bike paths, through parks, or on quiet streets? Be creative with your route planning – cycling is often not only more scenic but also faster than driving. This way, your morning commute can even become a relaxing experience!

  1. Cycling makes you happy

Regular exercise improves mental stability and reduces stress. Cycling, in particular, is balm for the soul: the steady, rhythmic motion has a relaxing effect, and the fresh air clears your mind. Furthermore, endurance activities like cycling release the feel-good hormones endorphin and adrenaline after 30 to 40 minutes. Cycle your way to happiness!

  1. You save costs

No train, bus, or parking tickets, no fines, no petrol costs – with an e-bike you save a lot of money every day. Even the purchase itself is often not a major investment: Many employers now offer their employees attractive bicycle leasing options. This allows you to use a high-quality e-bike at affordable monthly rates and save on taxes and social security contributions.

  1. You gain time

Work, family, sports, leisure – sometimes it's not so easy to juggle everything. Those who turn their commute into relaxing "me time" and have already completed their workout will have more time for friends and family after work.

  1. They are more flexible

Need to quickly pick something up somewhere? Fancy a quick coffee with friends in the city center? No problem, your e-bike will take you right to the café or department store door and is easy to push through the pedestrian zone.

This makes commuting to work by e-bike even more environmentally friendly:

  • When buying a new e-bike, pay attention to durability.
  • Maintain and service your e-bike
  • Avoid completely discharging the battery.
  • If possible, use green electricity to charge the battery.
  • Make sure your tires are properly inflated. This will make your bike roll better and you'll use less electricity.
