Since no comparable, rigorous rating system for textiles existed at the time, VAUDE developed Green Shape in 2010 as a standard for functional, environmentally friendly outdoor products made from sustainable materials. Accreditation of the Green Shape 3.0 standard by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS) is expected to take the standard to a new level in 2022. This will ensure greater independence and even higher credibility. To guarantee this independence, Arqum will assume the role of standard-setter, while VAUDE will remain a standard-user.
The Green Shape 3.0 standard encompasses the entire product lifecycle, from product design and material sourcing to production, use, maintenance, repair, and recycling. To receive a Green Shape label, a product must meet strict criteria, which are rigorously verified.
As a standard-setter, Arqum works closely with the Green Shape Advisory Board, which comprises stakeholders from the fields of environmental protection, science, supply chain, trade, and consumers. Regular expert reviews of the Green Shape criteria, processes, and procedures ensure that the standard is not only adhered to but also further developed in the future.
